The Democratic Caucus also elected its leadership team for the 2016-18 term. Sen. Steve Henson (D-41) will remain Leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus Senators Horacena Tate (D-38) will remain Senate Democratic Caucus Chair and Vincent Fort (D-39) will remain Senate Democratic Caucus Whip.

“Despite the troubling results of the national election on Tuesday, Georgia voters remained steadfast in their support of women, as did our caucus,” said Senate Leader Steve Henson. “Georgia continues its steady pace of increasing progressive leadership. Three metro Atlanta counties flipped from Republican to Democratic majorities, and voters remained consistent in voting patterns in national elections.”

Sen. Horacena Tate was re-elected, capturing more than 80 percent of the vote in her district. Tate said the caucus would continue to focus on legislation that impacts working families during the 2017 legislation session.

“What we know is that when we support women, families are stronger. When families are stronger, so are our communities and our state,” Tate said. “We will continue our fierce determination to build the bonds in our communities, put our shoulders to wheel of change to better support our families.”
